We are moving further, faster to help everyone affected by a brain tumour

Story

In September 2017 our lives changed forever. Mam was diagnosed with a primary brain tumour – a glioblastoma multiforme grade 4 – a fast growing and the most aggressive primary brain cancer. Survival rates for GBM4 are poor and she was given a prognosis of 12-14 months. She was 66.

She was determined to beat the prognosis and underwent two
major brain surgeries, gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

In the summer of 2019 we were told there was nothing more they could do. She died on the 28th of August, having achieved her aim of beating the prognosis by 9 months.

Prior to mam’s diagnosis, I had never heard of GBM4, and
didn’t realise there are over 130 different types of brain tumours.

The brain is the most incredible part of our bodies. It’s responsible for our movement, thoughts, memories and personalities. It’s who we are. The impact of brain tumours on patients and families is devastating, and more research and awareness is needed to help understand symptoms and understand the effects of
brain tumours.

Treatment for brain tumours hasn’t changed in 40 years. Over 12,000 people, including children, are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour every year. Brain cancer is also the biggest cancer killer of children and young adults under 40

Research into brain tumours is sadly underfunded with just 3% of the money spent each year on cancer research in the UK going on
brain tumours.

In July 2022, to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity in mam's memory, we'll be cycling the 200+ miles from Anglesey, where she lived, to Cardiff, where I live. A journey undertaken a number of times over the years but never on two wheels!

We’d be extremely grateful for any donation you could spare for this amazing charity.  Having witnessed first-hand how this cancer impacts lives, every penny will help. We can’t bring mam back,  but in her memory and name, we hope we to raise awareness and help others. Diolch/ Thank you.
