Story
A person goes missing every 90 seconds in the UK.
I work for the charity Missing People and I know first hand the impacts that the charity is experiencing because of a loss in funding. Covid-19 has stopped many fundraising events and people and companies who normally give charities money are keeping their hands in their pockets. These are difficult times and there is little certainty for people in all things.
One thing that is certain is children and adults are still going missing, are in unsafe situations and find themselves without support or someone to help them deal with their difficulties. The charity's helplines speaks to people who are suicidal, children experiencing exploitation from gangs or unsafe adults and people living in homes where they are hurt or not looked after properly. Running away or going missing sometimes feels like a last resort. We answer them, listen and work out a next safe step with them.
We also work with families desperate for news of their loved ones. People go missing for many reasons and some are not found for some time. We hold their families' hands while they wait.
The charity wants to support every person and family affected by missing.
My family are taking on the 90-90-90 challenge for something to do and hopefully to raise some funds.
Spencer (7) is doing a challenge every day for 90 days.
Dave is aiming for 90 hours of bike rides in 90 days.
I am going for No-Sugar for 90 days (tough) and to match Spencer's challenges
Join in with us you want, something to do hey!
For every person that gets involved in our exciting new 90-90-90 Virtual Challenge, and commits to raising at least £90, we can have a direct impact on a person that is missing through a publicity campaign giving real hope to families that are affected.
