Story
Hello, and thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. If you are reading this, then you probably know us. If not... well then nice to meet you!!
I would like to start by giving you a liitle background about why cancer research is so important to us personally... As with most people, our lives have been affected considerably by cancer. My father died of bowel cancer after a long painful illness at the incredibly young age of 55. My mother suffered from breast cancer just a year later at the same age, thankfully a very early diagnosis and treatment has seen her make a full recovery and she is now cancer free. Craig.. my wonderful strong and healthy husband who is never ill and fit as an ox has also fallen prey to the horrible beast that is cancer, bladder cancer. Again, owing to a very early and "lucky" diagnosis and the very treatment that cancer research works hard to research and develop, he has made a full recovery and is in remission, but as anyone affected by cancer will know... the threat of it's return never goes away Craig will need regular checks for the next six years before we can be a bit more confident. I have had cousins and work colleagues and friends who have all been touched by cancer, either personally or in someone they know. it is so important that we keep up the fight. It's easy to think it will never happen to you... I know I did, untill it did....
Craig and I have lead a relatively excercise free existence till 2 years ago when we decided we weren't getting any younger and we owed it to ourselves and our children to get healthy and fit. We made a commitment to run the Great North Run... at that point we couldn't even manage 100 feet without almost passing out so it may as well have been an Everest climb!! To cut a long story short... "Team Watson" stepped it up a gear... we got healthy... lost weight... and we ran that half marathon... This year , not only are we doing this again ( in hopefully a better time!!) We have also committed to a new challenge..."The Coast and Castles Cycle ride" which is what we are asking for your support for. The bike ride comprises of us travelling up to Edinburgh on a bus and our bike. We will then take 3 days cycling back to Blyth ( about 50 miles a day and a mammoth 80 on the last day) We are embarking on this with a group of other people but it is "Team Watson" ( Craig and I) that you are sponsoring. We are training hard and determined to rise to the challenge. Please give us your support and give us a worthy reason to keep us going when every bone in our bodies is aching and we are so exhausted we could cry.... Craig and I make a great team and have always kept each other going in some of our darkest hours. But knowing we have other people behind us and willing us on... will make all the difference.
