Story
Team Meader took part in the Superheroes Tri in August 2019, so it felt like high time to take on a new challenge… and Laura had a mad moment and rashly signed up the team to Winter Wonderwheels in aid of Sebastian’s Action Trust.
This year we don’t have to get wet (hopefully) but we do have to cycle 10 kilometres - that includes Noah - in silly costumes - around windswept Dorney Lake in Windsor - twice - on 5 December - with Liam in tow…

So why Sebastian’s Action Trust? This excellent charity has helped our family in a number of ways during the Covid crisis, as well as supporting several of our good friends whose beautiful and life-limited children have passed away since the pandemic began.
Being given the opportunity to take part in Winter Wonderwheels means that we can say a small ‘thank you’ to them for the wonderful work they do for families like ours.
Our son Liam has a rare genetic condition that means he has profound disabilities. This impacts on the whole family because he needs round-the-clock care to meet his needs. SAT has been great at providing activities for the whole family to enjoy - such as ‘Christmas in July’ at Ascot Racecourse - which have helped us to have fun together, experience new things, and make special memories while we can.
Liam’s younger brother Noah has also enjoyed SAT activities especially for siblings - both in person and on Zoom. These have included Lego ‘Crafternoons’ and relaxation sessions, which have given him some dedicated ‘me time’, as well as the chance to meet other young carers and explore his feelings around having a poorly older brother.
Earlier this year, SAT was finally allowed to host a remembrance day for bereaved families, at one of its outreach centres - Bluebells, near Basingstoke.
We are so sad that two of Liam’s good buddies, Ted and Molly, whom we’ve known since they were babies, have died within the past 18 months. Thanks to SAT, their families were able to attend this special service and continue their journey towards acceptance of the hardest loss to bear.
We are devastated for our friends, and find there is so little we can do to ease their pain. So we are taking part in this event in memory of both Molly and Ted, who will always be in our hearts.
Sebastian's Action Trust supports families of seriously-ill children, walking alongside them from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. We provide emotional, practical and social support to more than 600 families who have life-limited or life-threatened children. We support the whole family in the community, in the family home and at our two centres (Basingstoke and Crowthorne). We can't add days to lives, but we can - and do - add life to days.
