Story
This is our 4th Walk for Jess. Team Jess started in 2011 facing gale force winds on the West Highland Way. We followed with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in 2012 in blistering sunshine. Last year, 2013, we tackled the Norfolk Coast Path and were really lucky with the weather :) We have done all this to raise funds for bone cancer research in memory of our beautiful daughter Jess who died of primary bone cancer aged just 14 years old. We do it because we love Jess so much and we miss her every day. It is one of the ways that we keep her spirit alive. She was so bright and funny, curious and kind, she was the best of all of us.
Each walk so far has been chosen because of a link to Jess and our family in some way. This year we are tackling the Cumbria Way. When Jess was given the choice of where to go for a family holiday she chose to go back to Tarn Hows in the Lake District because it was one of her favorite places. It will be difficult to return to this beautiful place without her but we are looking forward to being somewhere that she loved.
Team Jess varies in membership and size each year. This year we'll have a smaller team as it will be a tougher challenge, averaging roughly 15 miles per day over 5 days, with backpacks, and staying in youth hostels and bunk houses. We are all nervous but looking forward to the challenge!!
As we have said before, one day we hope that no family will be faced with the frightening diagnosis, distressing treatment regimes and frequently tragic outcome that results from primary bone cancer. Supporting the Bone Cancer Research Trust is our way to help this to become a reality. If you could help us reach our target of £25,000 we would be very grateful. Let's do it for Jess and all the other children and young people out there who show courage beyond measure and who deserve the best we can do.
Thank you, Team Jess xxxx
