23 May 2011 update

 

This page is turning into a bit of a mess now because of all the updates, but this is the final one!

 

WE DID IT!!

 

Chris completed the race in a fantastic 00:54, while I pootled behind him in 01:28

 

Thanks to everybody that sponsored us, you have raised £670 for The Christie, and with the matched giving from work for my half, you will have raised £335 for Cancer Research UK, making a grand total of ... well ... a grand!! (& £5!)

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.

We are running the 10k BUPA Great Manchester Run on the 15th May 2011.  So, from sitting on our beee-hinds watching the soaps, we are now in training.  It turns out Chris is a natural, although he has picked up a couple of injuries.  Me?  I've found that I can't run far enough to pick up any injuries,  but i'll make sure I get round the course in a time that isn't too embarrassing (or i'll make sure i'm not last!).  Anyway - you're guaranteed to get your moneys worth out of us!

We have chosen to run to raise money for The Christie.  Based in Manchester, The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, and treats over 40,000 patients a year.  Their vision is a future without cancer and they want to provide ever more effective treatments for their patients so their chances of surviving cancer are greatly increased.  To do this they need money - to buy equipment and pay for the expertise that is crucial to making advances in cancer treatment - and every advance they make buys someone more time.

 

Cancer is an illness that is close to our hearts.  If you know us well, you will be aware how our families have been affected by cancer, especially over the last 12 months.  We decided to do this 10k in memory of Chris' Dad - Ron Howarth,  and in support of my dad and our sister in law Ailsa.
