Story
20th - 22nd May 2011, Bristol-to-Barcelona 2 (The Sequel)
Were Back!, Bigger! Fatter! Older!
Last year the Mercedes power and reliability made us a force to be reckoned with on the now infamous Barcelona Bangers Run. One small hiccup of losing a snowball fight to a load of Northern Monkeys on a goat track high up in the French Alps has not deterred us from entering again.
So here we are, it's nearly February and we have managed to secure a great drive with the Gluf Oil racing team, and as we'll be passing through the racing Mecca of the great Le Mans Circuit it seems fitting that we use a pair of stunning replica 1969 Ford GT40's.
Whilst they might look a bit like crappy old Mondeo's I'm assured by our supplier that they are the genuine article.
We should take delivery of our cars sometime in March, leaving us time to get them race prepared for the end of May. Pictures will be posted here as they take shape.
This years route can be viewed here http://www.barcelonabangers.co.uk/route.php
The driver line up has changed very little from last year owing to the high skill and durability of the selected few.
Car 1 Drivers & Main role in the team.
Steve McQueen Arnold. Bit Part Driver but famed for his important sleeping ability
Harry McQueen Arnold. Main Driver but has a small bladder leading to a lot of pit stops which could be a weakness in the team.
Rich McQueen Arnold. Other Main Driver with the ability to urinate for up to a staggering 7 minutes. Yes this really is a true fact & a very important Life Skill!
Gary No Relation I'm only along for the Beer & Food Simms. Team Manager & Refreshments Co-Ordinator.
Car 2 Drivers & Main role in the team.
Paul McQueen Miller. Main Driver and Team Liason officer, (Chatty Man, not to be confused with Alan Carr)
Nick McQueen King. Other Main Driver and professional sleeper, roumoured to be a close sleeping rival to the legendary Steve McQueen Arnold.
Mark McQueen Manders. (Newbie) As yet an unknown quantity, possible Hood Ornament, Roof Surfer, Gofer or some kind of I.C.E!
This Year our chosen charity will be Childrens Hospice South West, who provide hospice care to life-limited children and their families from across the South West.
Please take the time to visit their website and learn a bit more about their organisation. http://www.chsw.org.uk/
It's a fantastic organisation so please make a donation if you can. Thank You.
We would also like to thank you if you donted to us last year as we raised (including the Gift Aid) nearly £1500 for St Peter's Hospice.
Now the small print: We want you to know that ALL the donations made will go to Children's Hospice South West and will NOT fund any part of our trip.
