Story
We’re running the London Marathon 2023 for the MND Association.
Our purpose of running the London Marathon is to raise as much money and awareness for the MND Association as well as raising awareness for the 4Ed campaign in honour of Ed Slater.
MND is close to our hearts here at Gloucester Rugby following our colleague and friend Ed Slater being diagnosed with the disease in July 2022.
Ed has shown tremendous bravery in the face of adversity, even completing a 350-mile cycle ride shortly after his diagnosis.
Now it’s our turn to show just an ounce of that courage and stick our trainers on for 26.2 miles in support of all of those MND warriors, raising vital funds and awareness in the hope that one day a cure can be found and we can all live in a world free of MND.
Who are we?
We are a team of 4 running from Gloucester Rugby.
Gloucester Rugby’s Head of Performance, Dan Tobin, is joined by Defence Coach, Dom Waldouck and the club’s Media & Digital Manager, Tim Rogers. Completing the team is Lydia Atkinson, who is currently working on behalf of the 4Ed campaign.
We’d all be hugely grateful for your support in what we know is a tough climate right now. Every penny will go to supporting those currently living with MND and crucially edge us closer to finding that cure for MND.
What is MND?
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord.
This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
