The Christie - Manchester 100 Bike Ride · 2 September 2012 ·
Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.
As I have inadvertently become ‘captain’ of this trio of misfits and ne'er-do-wells, it falls upon me to write the blurb here.
It all started in early April in an idle moment one lunch time, reading a cycling magazine. There were details of the Manchester 100 published as a forthcoming event. It seemed like a good idea, something to aim for, as I had been enjoying cycling for a few months, following the obligatory ‘New Year – New Healthy Me’ campaign. I thought it would be fun to get others involved, so out went the invitation e-mail to all my good friends and colleagues at Bury.
I received several replies, mostly questioning my sanity to be honest, but happily, Graham and Vinnie were as up for it as I was. Damn! That means there’s no backing out now!
No sooner had the cheque been posted, the entry was registered, and our numbers were issued, than strange tales from previous participants and people who ‘know’ started to filter through about the ‘killer’ hills (particularly the one just before the end), the prevailing winds and the likelihood of sleet, snow, fire and flood and all manner of natural disaster ......
We, of course, laugh in the face of such adversity … but we’ll pack our waterproofs and some sticky plasters just in case!
And so it will soon be upon us … can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your contribution, however much you feel comfortable in giving will make a difference.
We are doing this for the Christie, not just because they have arranged the event, but because they are a ‘bloody fantastic cause’, and they have arranged the event.
On behalf of Graham and Vinnie – a huge thank you
Simon
