Story
On the 28th of September Lee & Helen will be attempting the 1 mile open water swim as part of the Castle Swim Series. On the same day Archie will participate in the Children’s Triathlon Event (100m open water swim, 4km bike, 1.3km run)
Sullivan’s Heroes is a charity offering support and financial assistance for families raising essential funds for vital home adaptations for a disabled child, to continue to care for their child at home, safely and with dignity.
Our dearest friends Richard & Fiona set up this charity whilst they struggled through the process of obtaining funding and assistance so that their son Sullivan could be cared for at home. Sullivan had been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of muscle myopathy and cardio myopathy. Through their own tireless research, they found that the available grant would only cover about half the cost of the house adaptations required. Through the involvement of family, friends, community and strangers they were able to fundraise the remaining amount to allow Sullivan to have the home life that catered for all his needs. Sadly Sullivan passed away just as the building project was finished, shortly after his 3rd birthday. However, Sullivan’s Heroes has continued to grow and help families obtain funds, gain easy access to required information and carry out their own fundraising where there can be huge shortfalls in council grants for home adaptations. So far Richard and Fiona have used all their experiences to help 61 families of disabled children achieve their goals to provide the best home lives for their children, where there was no single source of information and assistance previously.
Sullivan was an amazing boy who was smiley, cheeky and fun. He was full of determination achieved through the immense love and support of Richard and Fiona, who made sure he lived his life to the full. Sullivan is always in our thoughts and hearts, we miss him dearly and we are proud to do this event for his amazing charity. Thank you for any donation for our swim and Archie’s Triathlon for Sullivan’s Heroes.
