After two great years the games have moved to Wandsworth but have no fear this will only enhance the experience. Get ready to be reunited with old comrades and prepared to welcome new recruits while you battle it out to be crowned champions of 2019!
As always, expect old favourites such as: Volleyball, Rounders and eggs (In some capacity). The Wandsworth Cup's new feature will be a grand finale. Details of which will only be revealed on the day ;)
Like previous years BYOB, you are also welcome back to ours (5 mins walk) for the trophy presentation and further drinks following the games.
The games will be held on Saturday 10th August at 1pm and last until around 5pm, as it’s team based it really only works when you’re on time so please can you aim to arrive at 12:30 otherwise we can’t begin.
Why we’re doing this:
Following the rapid growth in awareness around the dangers of climate change it only seems right to support the one thing that is most important to all of us and our future generations - Planet Earth.
Therefore... going forward the games will be focused around supporting the natural world and so we are delighted to announce that this year we are raising money for Rainforest Trust UK.
All we are asking for is a minimum £10 donation.
- **Every donation is doubled** by a generous friend of Rainforest Trust UK, which means your donation will save twice as much rainforest.
- Please make sure your **name is visible when donating**, any anonymous donations will unfortunately not be matched.
- All donations will be specifically going towards the "Saving indigenous lands in the Amazon" project:
"Rainforest Trust and local partner Center for the Development of an Indigenous Amazon (CEDIA) seek $4,583,920 to title 220 communities covering more than six million acres in order to legally protect indigenous lands.
It is crucial to close the unprotected gaps between indigenous territories to prevent colonists and industries from negatively affecting the integrity of the ecosystems. In addition to granting communities the rights to their land, this will provide protection for Endangered species such as the White-bellied Spider Monkey, Giant Otter and Black-faced Black Spider Monkey."
Simply,
- Where: Loreto and Ucayali Regions, Peru
- What: Help protect land for 220 communities
- Why: Lack of land titles promotes the idea of “free land”, logging, mining, oil and gas extraction and colonization for agriculture
- *How much:* Price to save an acre of rainforest - £0.60
