Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Tea Cosy Pete's JustGiving page.
This afternoon I was saddened to hear of the passing of Tea Cosy Pete, aka Teabag, Swansea's famous vagrant.
After reading a comment on the South Wales Evening Post online, I was prompted to do more than just 'like' the fact that his death had been reported in the media.
So I set up this page to remember Pete by raising money for Shelter Cymru. Even if this page only gets a few quid for the homeless in Wales, at least it will have been donated on behalf of Teacosy Pete, a man who had next to nothing.
To Teacosy Pete who died in Castle Square:
A Swansea Man
You might have spotted him
sitting in a corner
by Iceland supermarket,
like a compost heap.
You may have picked out
his dark bulk
moving like a ghost
through Wind Street.
Perhaps you put
your fingers to your nose,
as behind you, up wind,
he drifted by.
But did you catch his eyes,
content to watch the shopping bags
being whisked across Castle Square?
Did you receive the soft
“Thankyou”, from the mouth of
a guy who never took,
was only given?
Did you notice
the broad gap
between the baggage
and the human?
Or feel the heart -
beneath the mudded layers -
warmer than any Uplands bed?
And did you hear the slump
as he lay on the stone
for the final time?
I did.
For like TeaCosy Pete,
I am a Swansea man.
