Story
In 2016 my dad was very ill and he was given a room at a Weldmar Hospice in Dorchester so he could be as comfortable as possible for the time he had left. The staff there were so accommodating and so kind and so patient; they pushed beds together, they let us sleep over, they let the dogs come to visit and they were there holding our hands through every step of our journey!
In 2020 the same charity held our hands and helped my mums new husband Tom Wellstead through his very sudden, fearless and traumatic battle with Cancer. They came to our house in the middle of the night, were there on the phone whenever we needed them and helped us in every possible way they could.
Life would have been a LOT different without them there to see us all through it.
The Weldmar Hospice is an independent charity in Dorset who only receive 20% of their funds from the NHS; the other 80% of their funds are raised by the local communities..
‘We have a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers and counsellors, but only 20% of our funds are provided by the NHS – we need to raise £26,000 per day, with the support of the local community, in order to continue our services.’
(THATS LESS FUNDING FROM THE NHS AND A WHOPPING INCREASE OF £16,000 MORE PER DAY THEY NEED TO RAISE COMPARED TO SEVEN YEARS AGO)
...so basically its down to us to make sure they're able to keep doing what they do so well. They guide people through very difficult parts of their life and they do it so brilliantly, we cant thank them enough.; but to try, and in memory of dad and Tom who both aren’t here anymore to show us how it’s done, we are holding a 'Dads Disco' on the 11th November at The Powerboat Club in Lyme Regis.
Suggested donations on the door of £5, everyone is invited and bad dancing is highly encouraged!
