Story
This is the fourth time I participate in Macmillan marathon for fundraising for those affected by cancer and their families. It will take place in Lake District on 18th of June. With Covid still affecting NHS resources and huge backlog in identifying and treating cancer patients, there is a great need for donations for Macmillan.
My first marathon I devoted to the memory of my grandma Rosa, who was a doctor, a remarkable person, and who unfortunately lost battle to cancer too early...
The second marathon I devoted to my mum, who was diagnosed with the 4th stage breast cancer in November 2014 and had several major surgeries and enormous amount of chemotherapies. The mind of my mum is so strong, that cancer had to leave her alone and for the past 3 years she has been cancer clear.
The third marathon I devoted to our beloved friend Chris Hall, who tragically passed away from the course not related to cancer, but he was always participating in fundraising events for charity helping the children. Unfortunately, as some of you might know, just before the start I had my knee fractured and I could only walk about half a mile, though I still managed to raise some money for Macmillan.
This marathon I devote to my dad, who is a military doctor and a remarkable person. He is 72, still working. He was diagnosed with cancer about 7 years ago, but managed to beat it. I have never heard a word of complaint from him about the life, people, patients, the difficulties of his military service… I have not seen many doctors, who would be so devoted to their profession, not mentioning that as an infectious disease doctor he had to work 2-3 shifts a day being over 70. I am very proud of you, father.
Being far from my parents makes me think more about other people, who have to fight cancer and their families... I will very much appreciate your donation to Macmillan, the charity well recognised for the great support to those, affected by cancer.
