Story
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk .
I would like to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young in memory of my beloved daughter Ariana Layla Jahangir who passed away, aged 5 and William aged 15
Ariana became acutely unwell during the second week of September 2018, and she was diagnosed with having severe heart failure, due to a dilated cardiomyopathy.
She was transferred to the Royal Brompton for four weeks, and then subsequently transferred to
Great Ormond Street where she underwent two major cardiac operations to try and save her life. Heartbreakingly, she passed away on 16th November 2018, due to a catastrophic brain haemorrhage.
Ariana was our only daughter whom we loved dearly.
This was a very distressing, emotional and difficult time for us as parents and all our family, friends and school community.
Ariana was a beautiful daughter who loved all aspects of her life. She loved participating in all activities, and had a very adventurous spirit. She cycled, played tennis and skied to name a few activities in her short life. She loved the outdoors!
Ariana had an infectious smile and lit up a room wherever she went and always tried to help and support her friends. She received the kindness award at her school, which is now remembered in her honour and given to the kindest pupil in the school every year.
I started running two years ago on a casual basis after the encouragement of my partner Maria and initially ran an occasional 10k race annually. I managed to complete the Big Half marathon in September 2022 and I decided to apply for a charity London Marathon place for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to raise funds in memory of our dearest Ariana and William .
I know only too well how stressful, devastating and
difficult it is receiving the diagnosis of a rare cardiac condition and the impact this can have on the child, parents and family. CRY always offered ongoing
support and resources to us and families who require assistance with difficult cardiac conditions.
Every week in the UK, 12 apparently fit and healthy, young people die suddenly due to cardiac complications. I know of another teenage boy,
Will, aged 15 who suddenly collapsed and died at school in February 2022 who was close to my partners family so she too has decided to run alongside me to raise money for CRY.
I am hoping to raise at least £2000 in Ariana’s and William’s memory for the CRY charity with your help.
I am battling running with plantar fasciitis and I now realise how demanding and difficult marathon training can be but am determined to do this in memory of my beautiful little girl and every step I
take will encourage me to raise money to help others which I know Ariana and William would have wanted during this challenge
Many thanks for all your support encouragement and donating to my Just giving page and sponsoring me for this worthwhile cause and charity.
Yours gratefully
Tariq Jahangir
