Story
Hi, Tara here! Thank you for checking in on my fundraiser, your probably wondering what this is all about- right?!
Well I have decided to set myself this challenge to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart and could really with some help during this difficult time.
The Challenge: The National 3 peaks challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in 24 hours. I have calculated the number of stairs I will need to climb to ascend each mountain based on my stair height of 18cm.
- Ben Nevis - Ascent = 1310m = 7278 steps to the top
- Scafell Pike - Ascent = 884m = 4911 steps to the top
- Snowdon - Ascent = 922m = 5122 steps to the top
I will conquer one mountain a day, at home on my stairs! Posting updates so you can see my progress. The English mountain, Scafell Pike, I will ascend on St Georges Day 23rd April. Followed by Scotland's Ben Nevis on 28th April and lastly Wale's Mount Snowdon on 4th May.
The Cause: BBOWT (Berkshire Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust) protects 2,500 hectares of land over 90 nature reserves across the 3 counties. They actively engage with urban communities supporting volunteers to enhance towns valuable wildlife habitats which we can all enjoy and benefit from. One such project is 'Wild Banbury' which I have been fortunate to be involved with. Due to the current Coronavirus they are experiencing a dramatic loss of income resulting from the closure of visitor attractions, cancelled fundraising, and decreased donations and access to grants. This will have a massive and lasting impact on their ability to care for our green spaces, protect our wildlife, and tackle climate change.
If like me the highlight of your day is your daily exercise where you get to walk, jog or cycle through the great outdoors and experience the joys of nature then please consider donating to my fundraiser. You will be helping your local wildlife trusts to make if through this difficult time.
