Story
I swim in the wake of Leander, who swam for love, and Byron, who swam for poetry.
After a year of lockdown, in which my aquatic activities were limited to Clevedon lake and the bath, I am ready to face my fear of fish - jellied and otherwise. A very real fear, which could lead my mission to fail. So, please help me - cash is very buoyant and I hate letting people down. Let's hope that sees me through.
Over the next three months my plan is to swim:
- 5 km down the Dart
- 4km around Winderball lake
- 7km down the Wye
- 6km down the Avon to Bantham beach
and at least 15km in any open water I can find (still hoping my husband will be brave enough to accompany me in his kayak from Barmouth to Penmaenpool)
All this culminating in a 4km swim across the Hellespont, from Europe to Asia: they have promised the shipping lanes will be shut.
