Story
Yes you have read the above correctly I am (attempting) to run the Virgin London Marathon in April 2020 and as part of my training for the marathon I will also be taking part in a number of other challenges/training runs over the next 5 months (further info on these listed below).
As most of you will know Mark, my best friend, soul mate and husband lost his battle with Sarcoma cancer on 6 May 2018 so I am doing this both in memory of him but also to raise both awareness of Sarcoma and vital funds for Sarcoma UK.
Following Mark’s diagnosis in 2014 our world was understandably turned upside down. We had never even heard of Sarcoma before, let alone understand quite how drastically it was going to affect our lives. For those who aren't aware, Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive cancer and Mark battled the disease like a warrior. I couldn’t have been more proud to be his wife. Heartbreakingly it was a battle that he could not win (no matter how hard he fought) and sadly this is the case for half of patients diagnosed with Sarcoma.
No one should have to go through what Mark went through and so I wanted to take this fantastic opportunity to raise not only vital funds but also awareness of what Sarcoma is and the incredible work that Sarcoma UK do!
The challenge - While running comes naturally to some people, I am certainly not one of those individuals. However I am determined to make it through the 26.2 miles even if I have to crawl over the finish line.
In preparation I will be doing lots of training come rain or shine (who am I kidding, it’s Manchester it’s just going to be rain, rain and more rain).
By donating to my page, you will be helping to fund vital research projects looking for better treatments. Your donation will also raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of sarcoma to help patients get an earlier diagnosis and ultimately receive better care, and to ensure everyone has access to specialist advice including the Sarcoma UK support line.
Every donation, no matter the amount will make a difference to the lives of those touched by Sarcoma when they need it most and will be greatly appreciated and provide me with that much needed determination to make it over the finish line.
And as if I am not crazy enough to be doing this in the first place I have also set myself a huge fundraising target (yes I am terrible at giving myself more pressure than I need). I have decided to aim for £6,500 - in honour of Mark because that is the short but precious time we had together, 6 and a half years so I wanted to make this even more meaningful (and challenging). So I would be so grateful if you could share this page with your family, friends, work colleagues as every donation no matter how small will help!
As mentioned above I also have some other events scheduled to date and will continue to add to this list as I plan more (I will also add updates and pictures along the way):

I’m supporting Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep our Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care.Thank you for your support.
