Story
Fiona was my best friend, such a beautiful person who always lit up the room! She was suddenly taken from us on July 17th 2014 aged just 24. Fiona left behind her loving family and beautiful little girl Olivia who was aged just 14 months old at the time. This past year has been immensely difficult for everyone who knew Fiona especially with so many unanswered questions as to why she was taken from us.
Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome or SADS as its more commonly known is the sudden death of an apparently healthy young adult where no conclusive cause of death can be determined. SADS UK aim to prevent loss of life from SADS by campaigning to highlight cardiac risk in the young and middle aged, support research into SADS and fund lifesaving equipment such as defibrillators for schools and the community.
The devastating loss of Fiona and the realisation that her little girl will grow up not knowing her mammy is heartbreaking. Fiona may be gone but her memory will live on forever, Olivia will never go a day without knowing how amazing her mammy was. Fiona has taught us all valuable lessons in life and for that I want to give back and run the Great North Run in memory of her to raise funds for SADS UK in the hopes that one day we'll all have a better understanding of SADS.
