Story
Ok, so after 14 years of applying, I finally have my space in the London Marathon. It’s been a dream of mine since watching it on the TV in my early teens, and has been on my bucket list ever since. Desperate to complete before I hit the big 40!
I'm fundraising for Sense, a national charity that supports people with complex communication needs. Many people will know the struggles we have had with our son Alfie. From an early age we knew that something wasn’t right, that Alfie seemed ‘different’, especially when compared to other children his own age. Starting school was huge for Alfie, and a real shock to us too. It became very apparent that Alfie had trouble with social communication, insistence of sameness of activities and surroundings, and repetitive patterns of behavior that affected daily functioning of his and us as a family.
Age 7 Alfie was diagnosed with Autism. We have all had to learn so much, least of all Alfie. Now 10 years old, he has his strategies, and ways and means of coping, we have been very lucky in terms of schooling who made sure he was always included, with lots of support.
So 28th April 2019 is the big day. From now, I will be seen pounding the streets, tallying up those miles in the next 6 months.
If you can sponser me, however big or small I would be forever grateful.
Thank you
