Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I have decided to run (yes run!!!!!) the Plymouth Half Marathon! I have decided to run and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. My Nan who passed away just over 4 years ago suffered with this form of dementia for many years so this charity is one close to my heart.
The Alzheimer’s Society reaches out to over 30,000 people every week by providing practical services and support for people with dementia and their carers. Carer’s can be anyone from professionals to family members and every year more than a million people make use of the information that the society provides. Alzheimer's Society staff and volunteers provide both local information and over 2,000 services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to people affected by dementia in their communities. The services include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and affects around 465,000 people in the UK. It is a progressive disease which means that gradually, over time, parts of the brain become damaged and as this happens the symptoms become more severe. As the disease progresses people with Alzheimer’s will need more support from those who care for them and, eventually, will need help with all of their daily activities.
As of yet there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease. But with every penny raised not only can we help those suffering with this form of dementia, their families and carers but we can also help to provide a little into valuable research that will hopefully, one day, find a cure.
Thankyou :)
p.s don't forget to gift aid it!
