We provide cutting-edge scientific insights to secure a brighter future for elephants

Story

Since 1994 I have been travelling to Kenya and over the years I grown to love and admire the magnificent Elephants that roam the plains of Africa.

I have been lucky enough to work on several projects that have helped with the Protection, Research, Awareness and deal with the Human Elephant Conflict of these wonderful creatures. I have also had the experience to visit many of the parks to view them in their natural habitats

The two lasting memories I have are.

·         Whilst staying in Northern Kenya over a period of 4 months most mornings I would get to see a magnificent bull walk past the farm house, I would often just sit there and watch him having his breakfast

·         In the summer of Kenya whilst on an expedition trekking in Northern Kenya I was lucky enough to witness a large herd of around 24 elephants and 4 calves drinking form a dam where I was camping.

But as you are aware there is a problem with poaching in East Africa, in the last 3 years ivory seeking poachers have killed 100,000 African Elephants.  In May 2014 Satao who was around 45 years old was poached in Tsavo East National Park.  It was estimated that he was the worlds largest and oldest Elephant.  I have seen 1st hand the devastating result of poaching and it is true to say that the elephant I saw would have suffered.

So now it is about time we started protecting these wonder creatures in the future I am unsure that I will see the size of the herd I did in the summer at close quarters.

I am raising money for Save the Elephants who was founded by Dr Iain Douglas-Hamilton.  Their mission is to secure a future for elephants and to sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places they live; to promote man’s delight in their intelligence and the diversity of their world, and to develop a tolerant relationship between the two species.  Save the Elephants relies on donations from individuals and foundations to fund its work to secure a future for elephants.

In 2012, 84% of the funds raised went to support the programmes in the field. 16% of the funds went to Fundraising and Administration. All grants and earmarked donations are used 100% on the intended projects.  Therefore your donation is going straight to the charity.
