Story
The 3 Peaks
Challenge is one of the UK’s best known mountain challenge events, which involves
climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. At midday
on Wednesday 7th June a team of 21 climbers made up of 11 EMCOR UK
employees and 10 supply chain partners will commence the ascent of Ben Nevis,
Scotland. This will be followed by Scafell Pike, England which will be climbed
during the middle of the night and finishes at Mount Snowdon, Wales. The
challenge is to climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK in just a 24-hour
period. To complete the challenge the team must complete the 26 miles of
walking, 11,182ft total ascent and 462 miles of travelling before midday on
Thursday 8th June.
We are doing this challenge to raise money for Macmillan
Cancer Support, and our collective aim is to raise £62,483 which would pay for
a Macmillan Nurse for 1 year, helping people living with cancer and their
families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
Here’s my story as to why I am part of the climbing team.
I was 8 years old when I first witnessed the pain and
suffering that cancer causes when my classmate David lost his life to Leukaemia
after an 18-month battle. Over the years friends and family, most recently
my aunt, have also had to battle this disease.
My mother also spent over 10 years managing charity shops that supported
both Cancer Research and Macmillan nurses.
PTSG, the company I work for, are supporting me in this
challenge with EMCOR which I am
completing to help raise vital funds for those who really need the fantastic
support that Macmillan cancer provide. Thank you for reading my page and
any donations that you can give.
