Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
During first lockdown in April 2020, Craig, the girls and I ran 8k in memory of our dear friend Jude Payne and raised over £700 for the Maggie’s centre.
By the September of that year, my running had ground to a halt as I struggled with back pain and my mobility slowly deteriorated to the point that by my 40th birthday in January 2021, I could barely walk the length of myself. Never had we imagined that a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer in my liver and bones would be the root cause of it all.
But I’m now half way through six months of chemotherapy and my body is responding well so far. I am much more mobile than I was a couple of months ago - although the furthest I have walked so far, is around 1km to the GP practice and home again!
However, inspired by Jackie Walsh’s phenomenal fundraising efforts in March which raised over £4,000 for Breast Cancer Care and my awesome Scottish Government colleagues who walked 10,000 steps a day raising £2,000 for Cancer Research UK - I thought it was about time I set myself a (much more modest) challenge to walk the Maggie’s 5k on 13 June - ‘in celebration, in reflection, in love and support of people with cancer.’
I didn’t really use the Maggie’s centre when I had cancer in 2013 as I felt there were people in greater need. But the warmth, compassion, support, advice and strength they have given me (and in turn Craig and the girls) over the last couple of months has been incredible. Every penny helps them to continue to provide the amazing service they do, led by the simply wonderful Andrew Anderson.
If you can spare what you’d spend on a take away coffee, that would be hugely appreciated by Maggie’s - and by us. Thank you.
And thank you to our army of support who has been behind us every step of the way. Your continued love, generosity and practical help really does help to keep us all strong and focused on making the most of each and every day.
Love T, C, E and F. Xxxx
