We offer expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness

Story

I am running the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 23rd May and would be extremely grateful for your support...

Yes, it's true I am always doing one kind of event or another, but this time it's different... I've really upped my game and have gone for the big one by entering my FIRST ever marathon!

Only 5 years ago, I thought this would have been impossible and something I could only dream of. I've been training hard over the last few years and now my dream is about to become a reality!

Never the less, it's still going to be extremely hard work for me, both physically and mentally. I would really appreciate your support and generosity in sponsoring me to run this event... All 26.2 miles of it!!

I have chosen to run for Marie Curie Cancer Care as I think they do a fantastic job of caring for people whose lives have been devastated by cancer and other terminal illnesses. Unfortunately this is not covered by the NHS and they really make the difference to the precious last moments of the terminally ill, allowing them to die in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

Marie Curie Nurses provide free nursing care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Research commissioned by Marie Curie Cancer Care shows that 64 per cent of people would choose to die at home. In reality only 25 per cent achieve this.

Every year, Marie Curie Nurses make that wish possible for thousands of cancer patients in cities, towns and villages across the UK.

Marie Curie Nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home.

Marie Curie nurses are also there for families and carers - providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers.

Thank you for your support! :)
