We partner with local people in Zambia to build and develop community schools

Story

10 crazy people, a mix of friends and strangers (but soon to be friends),  we have formed a group Beyond the Bike  to cycling more than 500km from London to Amsterdam in 4 days.Yikes!

But, that's not all. We, the Clarkes are do it on our tandem! A fantastic wedding gift we received last year from friends.
Why!!? We keep asking ourselves too, but ......

'Beyond Ourselves' charity partners with three Community Primary Schools in the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. Each year 10 students from the graduating Grade 7 classes at all three schools are selected to receive a bursary fund which enables them to continue their education into Grade 8 and beyond. These students are academically able but their families lack the finance to continue investing in their education. Currently, only 2 in 19 children in Zambia who start Primary School complete High School. To have the opportunity to attend and complete High School is life changing. This year they have their first students entering into Grade 11. To enable one student to continue in High School for one year costs just £92, that's £460 to complete Grades 8-12.

We hope by doing this epic and challenging cycle on the tandem we can raise some money to help fund their schooling.

In partnership with local Zambians we are helping to build and develop community schools in the Copperbelt region for children, mainly orphans, who cannot otherwise afford to go to school. We build classrooms, employ teachers, cooks and a nurse, and our hope is that communities will be transformed.
