Story
Thanks for your support with my Virtual London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
On Sunday 4th October, I took to the very wet streets of South West London to complete my Virtual London Marathon! Whilst it wasn’t exactly the Marathon that we all had planned at the beginning of the year, it was great to be able to take part in the event alongside 45,000 other runners around the world!
Having been shielding due to Covid-19 there had been very little training done so this was a new type of Marathon challenge for me, as well as being without the normal tremendous crowds that line the street on Marathon day. I hadn’t intended to actually run any of it, more a quick walk, but never one to shy away from a challenge I ran a total of 7.7 miles and walked 18.5 miles!
My run consisted of an 8 mile loop up to & around Wimbledon Common, then a 10 mile loop up to & around Battersea Park, then a repeat of the first 8 mile loop.
I saw lots of other Marathon runners along the way, including a man dressed as a giant bell in Battersea Park who happened to have the adjacent running number to me (scary!) and there were people cheering on their friends & family as well as strangers which was a real boost.
The wet & cold weather made it extremely challenging, needing a sock change after my first 8 mile loop after coming across floods in Wimbledon Park, but I made it in a total time of 5:55:24 with an active time of 5:38:30! Having said I wanted to complete it in between 6 and 7 hours I am really pleased.
As you know, Lupus UK is a charity that is extremely close to my heart. This year’s virtual Marathon was my 17th Marathon raising money for them. Lupus UK carrier out vital research into the presently incurable Lupus, as well as providing support to those who have Lupus.
My page donations will be sent direct to the charity in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity.
Thank you for all your generous support!

p.s. Here’s hoping it will be back to business as usual for the 2021 London Marathon, albeit it is being held in October rather than April...
