Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I actually have butterflies as I type this. This is why. Today (19 July 2018) I received a phone call informing me I'd been picked to step in as a last minute replacement to join the Amgen team cycling from London to Paris. The reason why I'm now wondering what on earth I've put myself forward for is because this epic 500km/310 mile journey starts on 5 September 2018. That's in just 48 days! It wouldn't be at all concerning if we were meandering along to Paris over a period of a couple of weeks, but no...the journey has to be completed in 4 days! Day 1 - 136km/85 miles, day 2 - 114km/71 miles, day 3- 104km/65 miles and day 4 - 80km/50 miles. So this is what my next 48 days are going to look like:
1. Buy a road bike (I'm not convinced it would be wise to tackle this journey on my mountain bike);
2. Train, train and train some more;
3. Plead with everyone I come into contact with to sponsor me (this is major concern #1 - I have to raise £1,500. To reach this target I have to raise £31.25 each and every day for the next 48 days);
4. Still be a mum and wife;
5. Still go to work 5 days a week; and
6. Go on our family holiday (which also reduces my number of training days to just 36).
But here's the thing. I am so incredibly fortunate to be able to do all of the above and I hope to be able to continue to do challenging things for many years to come but that's sadly not the case for everyone.
I'm raising money for Myeloma UK. Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. Myeloma UK is a charity which supports patients and their families and helps patients live longer, with a better quality life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments. Myeloma UK's ultimate goal is to find a cure.
But with no government funding, Myeloma UK relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising. That's where you come in. Please help by sponsoring me on this epic bike ride so together we can make a difference to people affected by myeloma.
Thank you
