We wanted to do something to raise some money for the Seal Sanctuary here in Cornwall. As we aren't able to leave our house at the moment, we are going to attempt to cycle 1407km (874 miles) - the distance from Lands End to John O'Groats, on our (Tam's) little pink exercise bike. We will each cycle 22.6k every day for 31 days beginning on 1st May.

It costs a lot of money to look after the seals and whilst we are all on lockdown they can't make any money from visits to the Sanctuary. If you could spare any money at all, we would be very grateful.

Here is a bit about the Seal Sanctuary:

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary has been an animal rescue facility for more than 60 years, and in that time the Sanctuary has never had to close our doors for such a long period of time. At this extremely challenging and difficult time for everyone, they are increasingly fearful over how they will be able to continue to care for their animals, especially with the necessary extension of the Coronavirus related lockdown in the UK.

As well as the vital work rescuing vulnerable seal pups in need of help and rehabilitating them so that they can return home to the wild, the Sanctuary provides a permanent home to a variety of marine mammals, each with their own individual care and medical needs.

It costs the charity £23,000 a month for the dedicated animal care team to feed, provide daily care, vital medicines and equipment to the Sanctuary's residents.

As the only seal sanctuary in Cornwall, they have been an advocate for protecting marine mammals and our oceans, with their seals as ambassadors for this important educational message. Each year the Sanctuary usually welcomes more than 100,000 visitors through their doors. But with the Sanctuary being closed at this time, the loss of this essential income is proving detrimental to the charity.
