Beyond Cranleigh 2022
Campaign by Restore Community (RCN 1165654)
In 2022 Beyond Ourselves will be delivering literacy training across the Copperbelt Province, supporting teachers as they tackle the problem of low literacy levels. We will also continue to support Kawama School professionally and financially.

Story

Since 2011, Cranleigh School has been partnering with Beyond Ourselves to offer quality education to orphans and vulnerable children in the Copperbelt region of Zambia. In particular, Cranleigh has a long lasting and meaningful relationship with Kawama Community School in Kitwe.

Over this time, the generous support from the Cranleigh community has provided the building and maintenance of six classrooms, a toilet block and kitchen, and given nearly a 1000 children access to a high standard primary education. The District Education Board cite Kawama Community School as an excellent example of practice for other Community Schools in the Copperbelt. Many of Cranleigh’s students have had the opportunity to visit Kawama and the impact of those visits is significant.

This October, I am super-excited that I will be joining 18 of my fellow 6th Form students from Cranleigh and will be heading out to Zambia to visit Kawama School.  Whilst I am there, I will help support learning in the classroom and help with extra-curricular activities and sport. I will also be doing a range of activities that will promote an understanding of Zambian culture and the role of aid in economic development.

Ahead of our trip in a few weeks’ time, we are looking to raise as much money as we can to support The KawamaCommunity School and on Sunday 25th September, I have decided to put myself through a gruelling 100km bike rideThanks to the wonders of modern technology, my bike ride will take me through parts of the USA, Canada, Mexico, India and Europe as I look to complete the 100km in around 8hours.

I am hoping that through the generosity of my family and friends, to be able to raise as much money as possible which will help make a life-changing difference to the children of Kawama.  If you would like to sponsor me, please click the link below which will take you through to my fundraising page.

Thank you for all your support and I will let you know how I get on!
