We fulfil unforgettable Special Days to support seriously ill 16 - 40 year olds

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Between June and mid September I am going to be undertaking a number of Openwater swim events, Aquathons and taking part in a team Triathlon. This is a personal challenge, as although I grew up as a club level swimmer I have always been totally terrified of Open water, this year I decided to change that.

Whilst I am conquering my own fears I thought I would use the personal challenge I am facing to benefit others and have therefore set up this charity page in the memory of Danielle Basson, a family member who sadly passed away as a result of cancer in February 2011, aged just 31.

The charity that will benefit from your donations is the Willow Foundation (Charity Nº1106746), who arrange special experiences for seriously ill 16 to 40 yr olds.

This is a charity that is extremely close to my families’ heart, and one that Danielle and her husband Nick were heavily linked to during the last few weeks of Danielle’s life.

Any donations you are able to give are greatly received, and will be helping provide people in the toughest of situations with something to look forward to, as well as creating the most precious of memories. These experiences provide a break from the realities of diagnosis, thus allowing those affected to feel normal for a short space of time, whilst living in a life that is far from normal.

The events I am taking part in take in Lake, River, Pool and Sea include (so far):
DONE - The Great North Swim - 2 miles in lake Windermere, june 23rd
Speedo Open water Swim Series - Windsor 1 Mile river Thames swim, July 8th -CANCELLED, bad river conditions
Speedo Open water Swim series - Hampton court bridge to bridge 2.25 mile river Thames swim, July 15th - CANCELLED, bad river conditions, replaced with 5KM lake swim
Speedo Open water Swim Series - Marlow 3km river Thames swim, August 26th - CANCELLED, Illness Replaced with MAXIFuel Big south Swim, Bray - 5km Lake event on Sept 2nd
