Story
The Gaza conflict, news, stories and pictures may have died down in the face of the media but the children and families continue to suffer...please dig deep and give any kind donation to those who are in desperate need! The conflict has caused the humanitarian situation in Gaza to reach crisis point.
Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes and are in desperate need of food, water, shelter and medical care. Over 200,000 people urgently need food aid; 1.5 million people have no or very limited access to water or sanitation; and over 65,000 people are now homeless after their homes were severely damaged or destroyed.
The health system in Gaza is on the verge of collapse, with 24 health facilities damaged and acute shortages of medicines and medical supplies.
As a health care professional seeing images and hearing about the dire environment and limited resources that our fellow medics and surgeons have been dealing with day in day out, purely for the sake of humanity , has made me realise how fortunate we are for the ease of access to our resources. The World Health Organization (WHO), health cluster partners and UN agencies have started field work for damage and needs assessments and recovery plans. The health sector regains partial functionality for most of their health facilities (although 58% have been damaged).
WHO’s
Regional Director pledged WHO’s continued support to the Ministry of Health and
to the Palestinian health system in general: “Health workers have been doing
heroic work since this crisis began. Our WHO staff in Gaza and Ramallah have
been working jointly with the Palestinian health authorities in an integrated
way in responding to the immediate and urgent needs to support and sustain
emergency health services in Gaza throughout the crisis.”
Services in Gaza were severely stretched before the conflict, and 80% of the population depended on aid. There is now massive unmet humanitarian need in Gaza which can only be met with substantial international assistance.
The aim for me and my fellow abseilers is to try and raise enough money to run a hospital in Gaza for one month with the help of the charity Islamic relief, God willing.
For the above reasons, I ask you to please donate generously! :)
Also...because I've never abseiled before and don't really know what I'm putting myself in for! Insha Allah khair!
