Story
Salaams, Hello, Hi...
Most people know I do some sort of fundraising every other year. Last year it was for domestic abuse victims. I wasn't initially planning to do anything major this year, just a few small personal projects... However, I was then approached regarding Yemen and in all honesty, I couldn't say no. Why? Yemen has been suffering for years, and the plight of their people doesn't seem to be getting any easier, in fact according to the UN it is the world's worst humanitarian crisis. How then can you not want to at the very least raise awareness, and try and support the people of Yemen by providing some funds for their very basic needs such as food and healthcare.
Imagine not being able to feed your children because of the civil unrest which has been escalating for the past six year, or care for your sick. More than 20.7 million people in Yemen need aid, 66% of the country’s population. A report from the UN in March this year reported Yemen is hurtling towards the worst famine the world has seen in decades. We really need to act now, to help stop this. 😔
The charity I am fundraising for, Mercy Relief, is on the ground in Yemen, they are able to deliver aid needed within days of you donating and it is a 100% donation policy. You are able to make general charitable donations (sadaqah), as well as donating your zakat for this cause.
Zakat, for my none Muslim friends, is a requirement for all Muslims to donate 2.5% of their wealth to those in need, every year.
