Story
A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored us and to those of you who might now that you’ve seen the proof! We hope to upload the offical "finish line" photo as soon as it is available.
We made it. It wasn’t the warmest of evenings but, considering the recent rain, it could have been a lot worse. We set off at one minute past midnight and the sheer volume of people walking made it seem like sale day on Oxford Street. However, we managed to stick together and have a few laughs as we usually do. The volunteers all the way round the route were fantastic – continually smiling and encouraging.
We were laden down with waterproofs, foil blankets, t-shirts and fleeces and, as the walk progressed, the different layers came on and off almost as regularly as the miles passed. Rina was our unofficial pacemaker and managed to keep us all moving. We were all surprised by the number of people cheering us on even if some of them were a little the worse for wear after a good night on the town!
The final two miles seemed the longest – like driving to Cornwall. You think you’re there but the final destination is always “just around the corner”.
True to our name, when we reached the finish line at 4am, we went in search of a nice cup of tea. Unfortunately we were too tired to wait ten minutes at the foodstall “for the kettle to boil” so we headed off to meet our lovely generous taxi driver, Chris, in a comfy warm cab.
We all really enjoyed the whole process from designing our bras through to crossing the finish line. Attempting the Full Moon next year seems a good idea at the moment – if you’ve walked it and can tell us otherwise, please let us know.
If you still wish to sponsor us, donating via this website is easy and totally secure. Also, if you are a UK tax payer, Gift Aid is added automatically which means the charity gets an extra 23p in every pound (at no cost to you), Walk the Walk gets your sponsorship money faster and it costs them less to process.
Thank you very much for your support.
