I have just spent 5 weeks in hospital with my 7 year old son who had severe malnutrition due to prolonged sickness and diarrhoea. They were the most scariest weeks of my life! As a mother, to see your child not eat and become weak day by day was absolutely awful. I can’t even begin to imagine how Yemeni parents must be feeling as they see their children deteriorate due to malnutrition and die. The helpless feeling is the worst feeling ever! 😔
Alhumdolillah we are fortunate to be living in the UK and have access to good healthcare. Allah SWT has blessed us with wealth with which we can buy whatever food we feel like eating. However, 2 out of 3 Yeminis cannot afford to buy any food at all. Half of the country is on the brink of starvation.
Yemen is facing a humanitarian catastrophe!
- Every ten minutes a child under five in Yemen dies of preventable causes
- 10 million people are living with extreme hunger
- 19.7 million lack access to basic healthcare
‘The current humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen is nothing short of a nightmare. With the country now having to contend against the rising tide of the Coronavirus pandemic as well as the ongoing conflict, we will see millions of Yemenis suffer further. With an already blighted health system, shortage of aid and now funding cuts, we cannot sit back and allow for this country to be wiped off the map. It is our responsibility to ensure that the people of Yemen receive the support they urgently require in their greatest time of need.’ (Muslim Hands Fundraising Director)
I would like to request my family and friends to dig deep into their pockets and help as much as they can. Social Media is a powerful tool, please share my page regularly and show your support. Our fellow brothers and sisters in Yemen need our help.
The people of Yemen were directly blessed by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) - but these blessed people are currently suffering from ‘the worst man-made humanitarian crisis of our time’.
