Story
Billy, George, Conor, Phil and Jack are cycling the GB Divide to raise as much money as possible for the SJIA Foundation.
Jack’s cousin Isobel was diagnosed with SJIA (systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis) in June 2019. Since then it hasn’t been possible to control her disease with the current medications which are largely biologics used to treat more common rheumatoid diseases. There is currently no cure for the disease and it can only be managed in the hope that children will grow out of it. There are many side effects to the disease but the most dangerous is MAS (macrophage attack syndrome) where the immune system attacks healthy cells, this can be deadly if not brought under control.
The SJIA Foundation is focused on finding better treatments and a cure for all SJIA patients, with a special focus on patients who are refractory to current biologics. 100% of proceeds donated to the foundation are spent on research.
The GB Divide was developed in 2019 and aims to take in all of the UK's wild places. A not so direct Land’s End to John o'Groats both on and off road, it climbs 30,000m over 2000kms (3 times up and down Everest!).
The five best friends will be carrying all of their gear on the bikes; sleeping, eating and cycling together over 3 weeks whilst taking in all the UK has to offer.
They hope to set off from Land’s End on Saturday 15th May and arrive in John o’Groats on Sunday 7th June – track their progress on Strava, and check back here for updates!
All donations to this worthy cause for a rare disease will be greatly appreciated. Many many thanks!
