We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I've taken on the challenge of running the 2023 London Marathon in April to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK, a charity which helps fund essential research into the causes of dementia and potential treatments for it.

It's a cause close to my heart as my mum Beth, who died 10 years ago, was diagnosed with early onset dementia in her mid-50s. Our family experienced first hand what a brutal, unforgiving illness it is as we gradually lost my mum. Sadly, our story is far from unique. It's estimated today that almost a million people in the UK are living with various forms of dementia, so unfortunately many of us will at some stage see a family member or friend suffering from the condition. And yet research into dementia gets only a fraction of the funding that goes into the research of other diseases.

I rarely run much more than 5k so training for the London Marathon over the next few months is going to be a huge challenge, but it's one that I'm definitely up for. I am really grateful for your support. Thanks.
