Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

****31/05/2011  I've done it!!!!

Running and marching 133 miles across Exmoor, the Quantocks and Sailsbury Plain was much harder than I ever imagined it could be but still not as hard as the challenge faced by a group of young disabled ex-servicemen and their wives I met recently. The scenery was breathtaking and the support and encouragement from the Project 65 crew and the other participants was fabulous. The welcome we received from the crowd and the sense of achievement when we finally finished in the Forces Festival ground was overwhelming. If the money I have raised can help our injured veterans to rebuild their lives then the pain of the blisters will have been worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who has supported and sponsored me for this challenge and if you haven't yet made a donation there is stil time. Thank you

I'm just an ordinary person, not particularly sporty, slim or fit. Four years ago I ran/walked half a mile round the block. Wheezing and breathless it took me 6 minutes. Today I have completed numerous races at different distances including two marathons.

Not one to shirk a challenge I was inspired last year when I watched Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson cross the finishing line of last year's Forces March. The 26 year old soldier lost both legs in a landmine blast in Afghanistan in 2006 and it was feared he would never walk again.

Just the age of my own eldest son when he suffered these horrific injuries it was incredibly moving to watch Ben cover the last four hundred yards of the forces march with the support of his regiment and a veterans guard of honour.

If Ben can have the courage to overcome his disabilities and achieve the things he has done there is no reason why I can't cover a measly 131 miles in five days and raise money to help other injured veterans.

Part of the Forces march Challenge is to raise money for Project 65, the charity for which Ben is patron.  Please help me reach my target for this worthwhile charity.
