Story
Last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery and treatment I wasn’t well enough to do this event but the organisers let me swim the junior event.
This year I’m back, I’ve trained all through the winter in pool and river and I am aiming to give it my best shot.
My good friend Lynn promised that I wouldn’t have to do it on my own and she’s kept her promise to swim in the Devon Avon with me.
Exercise has been my salvation. I ran/walked/crawled volunteered and cheered from my folding chair at parkrun all through my treatment and I know how much better I felt for just getting out there.
I am now an ambassador for 5k your way at Bedford parkrun to encourage and support other cancer patients and their families to take steps to include more exercise in their lives. The money I raise will go towards setting up 5k your way cancer support groups at parkruns across the UK and Ireland.
Join us to celebrate the first birthday of our 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer initiative on the 29th June 2019 at a location near you. You can donate today to help us grow and develop this initiative across the UK and Ireland.
