Running for Memories: Support Alzheimer's Research in the London Marathon!
Hello everyone! My name is Sydney Harrington, and on 21st of April 2024, I will be participating in the iconic London Marathon to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research. This cause is incredibly close to my heart as my beloved grandpa has been living with Alzheimer's, and I am determined to make a difference by supporting vital research to find a cure for this devastating disease.
Why I'm Running:
My grandpa's journey with Alzheimer's has been a deeply emotional and challenging experience for my family. Witnessing his struggles has inspired me to take action. By running the London Marathon, I hope to raise awareness about Alzheimer's, honor my grandpa's memory, and contribute to the ongoing research that can bring hope to countless families facing this heartbreaking reality.
About my Grandpa:
My grandpa, Dr. Harrington to his patients, Donald to his friends, and Grandpa to me, is an extraordinary man who still continues to leave a lasting impact on our family and community. As a dedicated family physician in Michigan for many years, he touched countless lives, providing compassionate care and healing to those in need. His passion for medicine inspired his two sons, one being my father, to follow in his footsteps, becoming physicians themselves.
Beyond his medical career, he was a man of diverse interests, enjoying fishing, learning new languages, and challenging himself with Sudoku puzzles using a blue pen. History books were his favorite companions along with his four legged friend, Pookie. He still has the most insatiable sweet tooth, always reaching for a glass of milk and anything sweet during his visits.
Whenever I sought guidance, he never failed to provide the best life advice, and his unwavering support for my career and education fueled my aspirations.
Remarkably fit, he performed 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups daily until his mid-80s, exemplifying his commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This motivated me to set the goal of running a marathon.
I am honored and proud to share the title of Dr. Harrington with him, as his legacy continues to inspire me to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
About Alzheimer's Research:
Alzheimer's is a progressive brain disorder that affects millions of lives worldwide. It robs individuals of their memories, cognitive abilities, and independence, making everyday tasks challenging. While we have made strides in understanding this condition, there is still much work to be done to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
How You Can Help:
Your generous support can make a significant impact. By donating to Alzheimer's Research, you are not just supporting me in this marathon, but also contributing to a future where Alzheimer's becomes a thing of the past. Your donation will directly fund research initiatives, clinical trials, and studies focused on understanding the disease better and developing potential treatment
