Story
On the 5th April 2022 my friend Adrian was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a rare degenerative disease that affects the motor neurons of the nervous system. It stops the messages from the brain reaching the muscles and affects a person’s ability to perform daily tasks. There are approximately 5,000 people living with MND in the UK and there is currently no cure.
Adrian was a very active 60-year-old man, enjoying his motorbike rides, runs with the dog, trips to visit his children and his social life. Everyone who knows him has been shaken by his diagnosis and have asked themseleves the question "is there anything I can do to help?" Well the answer to that is a resounding "YES!" You can help by donating some cash to the MND Association. Please sponsor me.
I am going to attempt to swim a mile in the sea between the piers off Brighton beach on or around the 18 September, depending on conditions. I hope that I will be joined by some friends and together we will be raising funds to contribute to the MND Association so that they can continue to help families in the same way that they have helped my friend Adrian and his family and to help them fund research to find a cure for MND.
Even small bits of equipment, like an iPad, can be extremely helpful in the day to day life of someone with MND and has certainly helped my friend to communicate as he can no longer speak. Any donation small or large can have a massive impact.
