Story
As the nights draw in and the good ol’ Scottish winter starts sneaking up on us, is there a better time for a daily swim in the absolutely Baltic Scottish lochs/seas?*
Throughout the whole of October Sara and Amanda have committed to swimming every day, in swim suits, to raise money towards our groups larger fundraising target of £10,500. As a group of neighbours we have been working together to raise funds to support the sponsorship of a refugee family to come settle in our local area (this is in addition to the UK quota). The funds will cover resettlement costs (e.g., translation, first month’s rent etc), whilst our local team will be there for that first year to help with the practicalities and day to day challenges they will face upon arrival. As you will be well aware, many refugees have experienced extreme violence and trauma, as well as family separation, before being resettled, and the task of building a new life requires time, support and welcome. We intend to be that support and welcome.
It’s an absolutely amazing project and commitment - and more can we found out about it on our Facebook page here : https://www.facebook.com/RefugeeSponsorshipIbrox/
We’re hoping you’ll dig deep and enjoy regular updates of us running in to lochs and seas, screaming and occasionally cursing (that’ll be Sara) as we take on the daily temperature dips, the guaranteed icy rain, dark mornings and cold nights in our swimsuits everyday for the whole of October - and, if we meet our target, in fancy dress to complete the challenge on the 31st October. 🎃.
*the answer is yes. There is. We face this with trepidation and hot water bottles 😂
