Cross Channel Swim · 25 June 2005

The Childrens Arthritis Trust supports Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College Hospital London to improve the care and treatment of children and young people with arthritis. Our goal is to strengthen the medical team by the provision of dedicated specialists in nursing and physiotherapy; and support staff to enable doctors to administer new and novel treatments to better manage the disease.

Story

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to come to my sponsorship page.

Although it was in a fit of madness that I agreed to do this Channel Swim, the past few months of sea & cold water training have made me even more aware of what a mammoth task I have committed myself to.

Countless 6am starts in the sea and freezing waters of various lakes will hopefully pay off, that said I have never been so terrified of any task as I am of this attempt. Even though there are 6 of us - 22 miles is still a bloody long way!!

That said, when I recall what I saw James go through without so much as a grumble or tear, I feel very humble and remember that I will be in discomfort for no more than a day. James managed extreme pain every day; for most of his short life.

I do not know what the English Channel has in store for me, but with your help, I know we can improve the lives of dozens of kids who are suffering from the same disease that James had. In fact we can CHANGE their lives. This is the most efficient way to sponsor me: Childrens Arthritis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Whatever you can afford, it doesn't matter how little. I am grateful for your time & support Best Wishes Andy Warren on behalf of Childrens Arthritis Trust (inc; James Herson Memorial Fund).
