Story
Driven by a desire to make a difference for people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injury, we (four swimmers) will attempt to complete one of the most gruelling feats of human endeavour when we swim the English Channel in aid of Aspire.
Nearly 146 years after Captain Matthew Webb became the first person to complete the swim from Dover to Calais, we will navigate the 22.5 mile stretch as a relay of 4 swimmers, to raise vital funds for people who have been paralysed by spinal cord Injury and need support going from injury to independence.
The swim will be registered under official Channel Swimming regulations and take place around the 18th August 2022. We will be swimming in hourly rotations in water as cold at 10c (no wetsuits allowed!) while navigating the world's busiest shipping lanes, strong tidal currents and dodging jellyfish. The aim is to reach the French coast in 12-15 hours and become part of a worldwide family of people who have conquered the famed stretch of water - just over 1,000 relay teams have ever completed the Channel crossing.
One of our team members sadly lost his step-father after experiencing a serious spinal cord injury. Despite his sheer determination and the incredible care he received, David Reid Scott passed away on July 11th 2020 aged 73 years.
We are supporting the charity Aspire, a national charity close to our hearts that provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone at any time, and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire exists because there is currently no cure.
With your kind support we can help people like David overcome their injuries and live a better life.
