We support aspergillosis patients to enhance understanding of the illness

Story

This year the Sweeney family are running the Belfast Marathon Relay (and one brave soul running the London Marathon!) in memory of our mum and wife Lina Sweeney.  Mum passed away in October from Pulmonary Aspergillosis. She had struggled with this illness for the last few years.

Unfortunately this disease is very difficult to diagnose and treat. One thing Mum found difficult was not knowing a lot about the disease, the medications, or knowing others with the disease.

The Aspergillosis Trust was a source of information and support for her throughout this difficult journey. The vision of Aspergillosis Trust is to achieve the best outcomes for all aspergillosis patients, until such time as a cure can be found. They have an aspiration to support research into the disease and to help improve health outcomes for patients.

Your donations will be invaluable to support this research and support patients throughout their journeys.

Thank you so much in advance for your kind donations, and to help we, as a family, will match, pound for pound, the total amount raised!

Our aim is to preserve and protect good health of people suffering from Aspergillosis by: - • Raising awareness of aspergillosis and increase the understanding of the condition amongst medical professionals and the public at large; • Supporting sufferers globally by providing information and creating real and virtual support networks for sufferers of the most common forms of the disease; • Circulating up-to-date information about the condition with all forms of aspergillosis and help them understand the disease and treatments; • Raising funds for research, with the aim of making aspergillosis far more readily recognisable than at present; • Via joint initiatives, educate healthcare professionals of the symptoms and treatment of aspergillosis as it is often missed and can take years to reach the correct diagnosis; and • Represent aspergillosis patients in wider lung health networks.
