Story
On 14th & 15th December, SVPS pupils in years R-6 will participate in online dance workshops delivered by professionals from West End in Schools. This event is in lieu of our usual annual trip to the pantomime which sadly can't happen at this time due to current restrictions.
SVPSPA are delighted to be funding the workshops for the benefit of our children and in return, we are asking for a minimum donation of £2 for the UWS Hile School in Nepal, the school's charity partner for this academic year.
Some background from UWS - The Hile School, Nepal
UWS Hile School is located in the remote district of Gulmi in Nepal. The school is located about 4,412 miles away from Sutton Valence, found in the Gulmi province of Nepal. It’s in the foothills of the Himalayas, and on clear days you get an incredible view of the mountain range from the playground. It is an incredibly poor and remote community, and before UWS built a school there, the students had absolutely no access to education.
These areas are extremely remote, with very basic or non-existent educational opportunities. Poor quality four-by-four tracks provide the only access to villages. This means government educational
provision struggles to reach these communities. Without education, families are unable to build a better life for their children and are instead forced to survive through subsistence farming, remaining trapped in a cycle of illiteracy.
Sutton Valence Prep School is helping UWS provide this remote community with the opportunity to attend school. Around 180 children currently attend, however, like the students of SVPS, their schooling has been hugely disrupted recently due to COVID. During lockdown, UWS have been reaching students in Nepal and delivering lessons through radio broadcasting.
On Sunday 22nd November, we heard the great news that students are beginning to return to classrooms.
It costs just £2 a week to educate a child at Hile, so every little truly does help, and make a real difference.
To give you an idea of how your donation will help:
£10 could fill a classroom with stationery
£50 could educate a child for a term
£100 could fill a library with storybooks
As you can see, every donation makes a real difference to the children and their community
