I took this picture on 24 August 2012 when Ukraine celebrated 21years of Independence. It was a very happy day.  

As of today over one and a half million people, predominately children with their mothers, have been forced to leave their homes. Apart from fleeing to neighbouring European countries, thousands of people are arriving in the west of Ukraine, displaced by the unjust war in Kyiv and other cities of the country. Churches, leisure centres and private homes have opened their doors to them. Volunteers have been looking after them providing food, medicines, clothes, mattresses, sleeping bags and other essentials.
