Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
If you're reading this you've probably just discovered that I had encephalitis when I was 12 and am one of the very lucky ones as I made a 100% recovery. Others are not so fortunate. As part of my 40 things to do for my 40th, one of my challenges is to raise £1000 for the Encephalitis Society.
Encephalitis means, simply, inflammation of the brain. It can occur at any age and is usually the result of a viral infection. There are many degrees of the illness and many people never recover.
The Encephalitis Society wasn't around in 1979 so my parents had access to very limited information. As well as providing a source of information and a network for patients and their families, the Society also raises awareness of the illness and campaigns for medical research. As with most charities, it needs money to keep up the good work. Although some famous names such as Liza Minelli have had encephalitis, and the society has attracted a visible Patron in Martin Kemp, encephalitis it is not a fashionable illness and doesn't get the media attention, focus or support that the charity needs.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Encephalitis Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
