Story
Cancer is a terrifying illness that is predicted to develop in at least one of every three people. Not only is it often responsible for claiming the lives of its carriers but also for devastating those that are left behind in the wake of its destruction.
Ovarian cancer itself is responsible for claiming the lives of two people I have loved, both of whom were amazingly strong, loving, caring, compassionate and inspiring individuals.
My beloved grandma passed away aged 52 to the disease 18 years ago leaving my granddad to recently celebrate their 50 Wedding Anniversary alone. She held us together and coming to terms with her loss is something that my family have struggled with, throughout most of my life.
I was reminded of the cruelty of this illness and it lasting effects when at the start of this year my amazing mother in law Cathy, also lost her long battle against ovarian cancer.
The hard part to swallow is that if the early symptoms of this disease are recognised the survival rate can be as high as 90%! Raising awareness to these early symptoms is therefore the key to preventing the unnecessary loss of future lives.
Ovarian Cancer Action is devoted to raising awareness about the facts of this illness hence ensuring that this type of information is passed on to the people that need to know allowing them a fighting chance of recognising the disease in its early stages.
A 525km trek along the Mekong Delta seemed an admiral way to raise money for this worthy cause.
No contribution is too small and all help is greatly appreciated – with all money going directly to Ovarian Cancer Action.
Many thanks for taking the time to read my page – hopefully it will have inspired you to join the cause!
