We sadly lost our dear Dad, Brian, in February 2021 to sepsis, COPD, Covid and heart disease. I wanted to give something back to the amazing care he received and to highlight sepsis and try and raise some money for this charity. They do not receive places for London and I am proud to use my ballot place for Sepsis and to wear their vest.
This will be my 7th full marathon and I struggled last year to get my mojo back so any pledges will keep me going on my runs and knowing I can make my Dad proud. I have got up to 10 mile runs and will be back out there - just getting over Covid - so now I know I need to get back on with my training.
Every year in the UK 250,000 people are affected by sepsis; 52,000 people die because of sepsis (1,000 which are children) and 60,000 suffer permanent, life changing after effects.
Sepsis, is the reaction to an infection in which the body attacks it’s own organs and tissues. If not spotted and treated quickly, it can rapidly lead to organ failure and death.
Sepsis is an indiscriminate killer, claiming young and old lives alike and affecting the previously fit and healthy. It’s more common than heart attacks and kills more people than bowel, breast and prostrate cancer and road accidents combined.
I am so grateful for all the previous support I have received in my previous marathons and know times are hard with the cost of living but if anyone can sponsor me anything I will be so, so grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
